Hey Guys,

I love the podcast and hearing about your work. Regarding the file and share security problems; You should check out DumpSec from www.somarsoft.com. It is a free utility that dumps the user permissions on a file system or share (disk or printer) and lets you export in a variety of formats. I've used the utility for auditing a system for security holes and mis-configurations or in preparation for migrating to a new server to make sure I have the appropriate permission structure on the new server. They have a couple other free utilities that might come in handy as well.

I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hello Gang;

I would like to say that I love your podcast and listen to it everytime it comes out. I know you enjoy a family podcast but I don't think a little fowl language will stop people from listening. I enjoy your podcast and keep rocking.

Re the Apple rant: you can add Dell and IBM (formerly; dunno if Lenovo inherited that behavior) to the list of companies known to reimage hard drives for no good reason. At least *they* warn you that if you care you should pull and keep your HD before sending your machine in, though. Which I'd consider a best practice, in fact.

You can also use the free version of SuperDuper to make a DMG of the mac to a drive like a firewire, across the network etc while the mac is running. I just backed up my imac that way since I will be taking it in soon for its annual cleanup under my ProCare.
