Hey Guys! Love the show. I started with episode 1 a few weeks ago and am all caught up now. I have an hour commute to and from work each day and enjoy the episodes.
Thought I’d reply to your request about how to expand the system partition on a domain controller. I had this same challenge a few weeks ago and came up with a cool solution.
The Server 2003 domain controller is running on an HP DL360 with hardware mirroring. The process wasn’t very tough. In a nutshell here’s how it worked:
1. Boot from a Bart PE cd (had to load the array controller driver at bootup)
2. Use Ghost 10 to ghost all the partitions up to the network.
3. Take out the drives and replace them with new drives (just in case this doesn’t work I can revert back to the original drives).
4. Boot up again from Bart PE and use Ghost to copy the partitions back down to the server. When you do this you can resize the partitions to meet your needs.
5. Boot-up the server in directory services restore mode. This is because the drive letters changed from the Ghost process. From computer management, re-assign the drive letters as they should be from before.
6. Reboot, and guess what? The server is back-up and running like normal with the increased partition size.
Glad to pass this on to the IT community.
Hey guys, keep up the great work
